BIOGRAPHY
I am a self-taught artist specializing in large abstracts. After serving in the United States Army for seven years and several years of government service, I found that my life was lacking something. After taking an art class by chance, I soon became obsessed with painting as an outlet for my inner stresses and anxiety. I have two styles of abstract painting that I have been diving into. First was layering thick layers of oil paint across the canvas using large handmade tools to smear and pull the paint, influenced by German artist Gerhard Richter. More recently with the isolation caused by COVID-19 I found myself struggling to find a direct emotional connection to the canvas. In a primitive form, I began taking my finger and painting directly and soon began using my hands and arms. I like to think of these paintings as "Living Paintings", as they quite literally have my DNA in them. Bigger canvases allow me to put all of my emotion and process into the painting. I have shown my work in businesses and galleries in the Kansas City and Iowa area. I am currently represented by After Action Network, a non-profit organization promoting veterans in the arts. I currently live and work in Kansas City, MO.
